Public Data Only
Scraping Geek works exclusively with publicly available web data — information that is freely accessible to anyone using a standard web browser without requiring login credentials, authentication, or special access.
We extract data from public-facing websites, directories, marketplaces, listing platforms, and other openly accessible online sources. If information is visible to any visitor in a browser, it falls within our scope of service.
What We Do Not Accept
Scraping Geek does not accept projects involving:
- Login-protected data — Any content behind authentication walls, member-only areas, or account-restricted pages
- Private or confidential data — Internal databases, private communications, confidential business records, or proprietary systems
- Sensitive personal data — Health records, financial account details, government ID numbers, biometric data, or other information classified as sensitive under data protection regulations
- Unauthorized access — Any data that would require circumventing security measures, violating terms of service in ways that constitute unauthorized access, or bypassing access controls
- Illegal content — Data associated with illegal activities, prohibited goods, or content that violates applicable laws
Project Review Process
Every project submitted to Scraping Geek undergoes a review process before acceptance:
- Source Assessment — We verify that the target website serves publicly accessible content without login requirements
- Data Type Review — We confirm the requested data fields do not include sensitive personal information
- Use Case Evaluation — We assess whether the intended use of the data aligns with ethical data collection practices
- Terms Review — We review the target website's terms of service and robots.txt to guide our collection approach
- Approval or Decline — We accept the project, request modifications to the scope, or decline if it doesn't meet our standards
We reserve the right to decline any project that does not meet our compliance criteria, regardless of its commercial value.
Client Responsibilities
By engaging Scraping Geek's services, clients acknowledge and agree that:
- They will use the delivered data in compliance with all applicable local, national, and international laws and regulations
- They are responsible for ensuring their intended use of the data complies with relevant data protection laws (including GDPR, CCPA, and similar regulations)
- They will not use the data for purposes that violate the privacy rights of individuals
- They will not misrepresent the source, nature, or authorization of the collected data
- They will implement appropriate data security measures to protect the delivered datasets
Data Handling Practices
Scraping Geek follows responsible data handling practices:
- Polite crawling — We implement reasonable rate limits and respect server load to minimize impact on target websites
- robots.txt awareness — We review and consider robots.txt directives as part of our project scoping
- Data minimization — We collect only the specific data fields requested by the client, not entire website databases
- Secure delivery — Data is delivered through secure channels and is not shared with third parties
- Data retention — Working copies of extracted data are retained only for the duration necessary to complete the project and handle any revision requests. They are deleted within 30 days of final delivery unless otherwise agreed
GDPR & CCPA Considerations
Note: The following is provided for informational purposes and does not constitute legal advice. Clients should consult with their own legal counsel regarding data protection compliance.
When projects involve data that may include personal information of individuals (such as business contact names, email addresses, or phone numbers from public directories), we take the following approach:
- We collect only publicly available business information, not private personal data
- We inform clients of their obligations under applicable data protection regulations
- We support data subject access requests where applicable — if an individual requests removal of their data from a dataset we've delivered, we will work with the client to facilitate compliance
- We recommend clients maintain appropriate records of their lawful basis for processing any personal data contained in delivered datasets
